Abstract

This study aims to describe the factors underlying the agency of unmarried women, examine the meaning of spiritual equality, and analyze societal views toward unmarried women among alumni of the Inter-University Christian Fellowship (Perkantas) in Medan City. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnography, involving participant observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and field notes. The research informants were unmarried female Perkantas alumni. Data analysis was conducted using domain techniques, taxonomy, and in-depth interview analysis. The results show that the agency of unmarried women is influenced by faith growth, involvement in ministry, participation in the Growing Together Group (KTB), observation of marital relationships, awareness of one's abilities, and spiritual reflection. Spiritual equality is understood as harmony of faith, spiritual maturity, shared values and principles, shared vision of ministry, and commitment to growing in faith. Societal and family views indicate that unmarried women are still accepted and valued, despite expectations related to marriage. Unmarried status allows women flexibility in time and the opportunity to be more active in ministry, although some face social pressures that affect self-confidence. This research confirms that spiritual agency and congruence are important aspects that shape women's relationships with God, community, and life decisions, thus enabling them to continue to actively participate and grow spiritually in complex social contexts.
